Description

The London Ambulance Service is reviewing its vehicle preparation service and seeking market input to ensure all vehicles are cleaned and fully equipped at the beginning of each shift in the most optimal way for the Trust. The London Ambulance Service (LAS) operates out of 71 sites across London. Of these, 14 are currently set up as vehicle preparation hubs that support a 24/7 operation. The main services required as part of vehicle preparation include: daily internal clean to infection control standards, vehicle checks (incl. lights, tyres, roadworthiness, checks for damages, etc), deep clean (incl. body fluids cleaning), management of equipment and medical consumables inventory, vehicle movement. The service currently covers only double crew ambulances, however there is an ambition to include fast response unit vehicles as well as non-emergency vehicles. The aim of the vehicle preparation service is to optimise the number of available ambulances and minimise lost time for ambulance crews and the opportunity cost related to it. The scope and detailed specifications of the service are currently being reviewed by LAS. In order to inform LAS on the options available we would like to request further information from the marketplace on: — Geographical presence — What should be considered when ascertaining the optimum number and position of hub stations? — Vehicle types — How you would you propose to manage different vehicle types to maximise efficiency and vehicle on the road times? — Equipment tracking – How you could support LAS to track and manage equipment inventory and assets? — Commercial model – What types of commercial models should LAS be considering? — Hours of operation and scheduling – How would you propose shift patterns are managed to ensure effective staff deployment in line with the LAS hours of operation? — Technology – What technology could be deployed to streamline the operation and deliver additional benefits to LAS? — Additional services to consider – What additional services should LAS consider as part of the service? — Risk — In your experience, what are the main risks LAS should be considering? — Environmental impact – What ideas you might have to lessen the environmental impact of the service and help LAS achieve its social responsibility goals? — Health and Safety – What health and safety and infection control implications should be considered when designing the service? We also welcome innovative ideas and best practice suggestions for creative vehicle preparation services, if not covered in the above points.
