Railway signalling works
Published
Description
London Underground Limited (LUL) is inviting companies to participate in market engagement for the procurement of a Depot Signalling System at Northumberland Park depot (NPD). This engagement will also consider future depot Signalling System requirements within the LUL programme, namely Stonebridge Park, Morden and Highgate Depots. The LUL programme is providing additional capacity beyond that delivered by the first wave of upgrades on the Victoria, Jubilee and Northern Lines. It will also undertake extension of life upgrades to the Central and Bakerloo lines to enable them to continue operating reliably until full line upgrades are delivered by the LUL New Tube for London (NTfL) programme. The scope of works for all four depots is summarised below: LUL is seeking a depot signalling solution that can be deployed in the four depots listed above with minimal customisation. As depots layouts change more frequently than the mainline, LUL is seeking to ensure that the system is fully reconfigurable, in order to ensure that minor enhancements to the depot configuration can be implemented internally by LUL without any recourse to the supplier. — The Northumberland Park project is planning to install a signalling system with modern, commercially available-of-the-shelf (COTS) equipment which can be implemented across various LUL depots. The depot is equipped with custom-built signalling and a legacy shunters' panel that, after circa 55 years of service, are life expired and obsolete. The project does not include replacements of the existing Points Machines. However, the project will replace the point detector boxes which would enable LUL to replace the point machines in future with minimum disruption. — At Stonebridge Park depot, the scope of work is limited to the replacement of the existing legacy shunters' panel with a new VDU-based panel only. This is supported by the recommendation of a recent feasibility study report which has determined that the existing electronic cards and trackside equipment at this location are in a good state and will continue to function reliably until the NTfL Bakerloo Line upgrade is delivered in 2028. — At Morden, the scope of works is to replace the existing ground frame and Tiefenbach systems with a modern, signalling system similar to the scope for Northumberland Park depot. This work is being delivered as part of another LUL project and is aimed at increasing the injection rate from the depot to the mainline. Morden depot assets and infrastructure are operated and maintained by Alstom; with the exception of the ground frame system which is maintained by LUL. — At Highgate, the LUL scope involves removing the existing sidings and test track in order to build a brand new depot facility to cater for the additional trains being supplied as part of another LUL project. The scope of works will involve the provision of a depot signalling and control system once the civils works are complete.
