NU2075 - Supply of Melt Electro Writing Instrument with Incorporated Bioprinting

Published

Description

The Mechanical and Marine Engineering discipline within the School of Engineering require a Melt Electro Writing instrument with the capability to perform bioprinting within the same fabrication step, to be used in training, and education related to advanced processing technologies. Therefore, we are looking to procure a hybrid equipment, containing both Melt Electro writing and bioprinting functionalities that will enable us to process different new biomaterials, with and without cells, into highly functional 3D platforms for tissue engineering, smart sensors, bioelectrics and energy. The equipment should allow for the creation of 2D and 3D structures embedded with different features and functional components, from living cells to conductive inks to lay electronic paths. The melt electro writing module should allow processing of different polymers, including thermoplastics. Altogether, this equipment would allow us to educate students in emerging processing technologies which will be used in healthcare and smart electronics. This purchase is being funded by an award from the Office for Students. Keywords: Melt Electro Writing Instrument, Melt Electro Writing Instrument with Incorporated Bioprinting, Bioprinting
