The Queensferry Crossing is a multi-span bridge with an overall length of approximately 2.6km between the north and south abutments. The bridge deck carries two lanes of traffic and a hard shoulder in each direction. Underdeck access gantries are installed on runway beams fixed to the approach viaducts and the main spans of the Queensferry Crossing. These gantries are used as part of the maintenance and inspection regimes undertaken to ensure the bridge remains in operation. The bridge is also carries internal deck shuttles within its box girder arrangement on both the west and east side of the bridge. These provide access along the whole length of the bridge for two operatives and a small payload. This scheme builds on recent refurbishment of the gantries by utilising a specialist sub-contractor to carry out inspection and maintenance where required on all gantry systems including: -Visual inspection of whole gantry units -Gantry safety functions -Electrical system -Mechanical components including gear motors, brakes and telescopic platform components. -Hydraulic systems Following inspection and maintenance phase and completed on a 6 monthly basis as required by the O&M manuals and relevant standards.: -PUWER inspections -LOLER clause 9.3 thorough inspections Contractors must have demonstrable experience of similar underdeck access gantry maintenance and inspection works.
