Dundee City Council have a requirement create a Marketing Destination Campaign – ‘Destination Dundee’. Tourism is a key sector for Dundee and has been growing in importance in recent years. Prior to, and since, the opening of V&A Dundee the sector has worked in partnership to ensure that Dundee is considered as a vibrant new leisure destination. This collaborative approach has been highly successful with Dundee gaining an unprecedented number of accolades as one the best new visitor destinations. The opening of V&A Dundee in Sept 2018; an increase in visitor accommodation; the developing waterfront; new visitor activities and experiences; a burgeoning independent food and drink offer; and highly respected creative, culture, art and design sectors are just some of the city’s strengths which are driving our leisure offer. 2018 to 2019 saw an increase of 13.9% day visitors, 19.6 % overnight visitors and overall 16.9% tourism visits. Pre-COVID 19 the Dundee Tourism Leadership Group was developing a new 5 year tourism strategy for the city. This has now been overlayed with an interim response strategy which deals with changed circumstances as a result of the pandemic. It is imperative we do not lose the momentum the city has gained as a new visitor destination. At this crucial point in our journey it is essential that the city is positioned as a must-see place for people to visit.
