Description

The University of Leicester wishes to engage publications and research data management system suppliers and developers (from commercial providers, academic institutions, non-commercial organisations etc.) with previous experience within the Higher Education Sector, to develop a repository platform/service to enable our research community to comply with funder, publishers, and institutional requirements and drivers around open access and discoverability of research outputs (both publications and research data). The solution should integrate components to ingest, store, publish, disseminate, preserve and report on final research outputs. The final product should include a repository with a user interface to be used by researchers to deposit, publish and discover both publications and data. The solution offered must be SAAS/ Cloud based, as the University does not have the capacity or resources to support an on-prem solution. Current high level requirements: Data repository 1. The solution must support current open standards and support exposure of metadata in different ways. 2. The solution must offer a platform that enables data deposit, ingest, publishing/sharing, and data discovery functionality. 3. The solution must support generation of persistent unique identifiers for datasets including DOIs. 4. The discovery layer and the delivery layer must not only integrate with each other but also the University's chosen archival solution, which is Arkivum. 5. The solution should offer customisation of out of the box help text and provide context sensitive feedback for the depositor e.g. Highlight missing metadata fields, file upload failure alert. 6. The supplier must have a proven track history of supporting the exporting of data out of their solution and decommissioning systems at the end of their contract lifecycle. 7. The solution must support access to data sets which may be stored outside the repository e.g. in cloud based storage. 8. The solution should integrate with the University of Leicester Current Research Information System (CRIS) — Symplectic Elements. Publications repository 1. The system must support digital preservation capabilities and system availability and speed. 2. The solution must support ingest of new research objects, mainly PDFs, and metadata from our Current Research Information System (CRIS) Symplectic Elements. 3. The solution must provide a useable way for us to operate our repository — manual entry of items, editing, withdrawal, embargoes etc. including metadata schema upgrade and bulk operations. 4. The solution must provide a good user experience for our users.
