Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) has a diverse education offer for all ages and this is your opportunity to become part of a vibrant team. Role – Summer Holiday Club – Education Officer. We are looking to fill a leading role with candidates with teaching/delivery experience – possibly those who are studying or recently completed courses in areas such as Outdoor Learning, Education, Science or Horticulture. These roles will develop and deliver our Summer Holiday Club for children at RBGE. The Mighty Oaks Club will run each week with a group of 15 children. There children will be in P4 – 7. During their time with us, they will take part in an exciting programme themed around the topic of ‘Diversity’, where they will explore plants through activities in the garden and accompanying activities inside. As an RBGE Holiday Club - Education Officer you will: Develop age-appropriate activities for the group you are working with which meet the theme of ‘Diversity’ Create resources as required to enable delivery of such activities. This may include arts and crafts, literacy, science-based tasks but must always link to the theme of diversity with a particular focus on plants wherever possible. Use of the outdoor space in the garden is encouraged as much as possible Complete a one-day onsite induction at RBGE Edinburgh Carry out relevant risk assessments, highlighting any potential issues and with an awareness of accessibility, inclusivity and safeguarding Set up the activities and tidy away kit at the end of the day Deliver 5 days of engaging, fun holiday club activities – repeated 4 times with different groups each week over the 4 weeks of the programme Ensure the children stay safe and feel supported during the day, including any basic first aid as appropriate Enable the engagement of the children in the different activities provided according to their individual needs. Supervise breaks in collaboration with students on work placement and education volunteers Skills, attitudes and experience needed A detailed role description is attached, however you also need: A supportive and caring nature A sense of fun and curiosity to encourage exploration and learning in an informal setting Experience working with children and young people is desirable; willingness to have a go is essential PVG Disclosure.
