Description
Timespan finds itself at a pivotal juncture, marked by significant transformation efforts. This moment is critical, requiring a comprehensive revitalisation of our entire building to support our strategic plan for 2025-2028 (see attached). The need for redevelopment stems from our commitment to unlocking Timespan's full potential as a cohesive, sustainable museum and cultural institution. A feasibility study will inform this transformation, ensuring Timespan evolves into a more accessible, sustainable, and inclusive institution. The study will shape significant changes across both our physical infrastructure and the interpretive narratives that reflect our community's evolving needs and the broader impacts of the climate crisis and the legacies of colonialism and extractivism. Lot 1: Timespan intends to appoint an architect-led design team to provide the design services required to review the current material and progress a Feasibility Study. A Feasibility Study for Timespan’s building will guide our future strategic investment into the building and narratives presented. This study will produce a comprehensive report, detailing designs and costs to RIBA Stage 1. Aligned with Timespan’s mission to use arts, heritage, digital technologies, education, wellbeing, and community building as catalysts for political, social, cultural, environmental, and communal change, the feasibility study will prioritise sustainability, accessibility, and community involvement. Through collaboration with architects, communities, youth partners, and experts, we aim to develop a sustainable design, accurate costing, and a resilient project plan. Our goal is to enhance the vision and resilience of our facility, ensuring it remains a vibrant and inclusive community asset for the future. Due to the grant funded nature of the project, the contract for services may pause or end after the completion of any RIBA stage. Timespan intends to instruct to RIBA Stage 1 completion initially, with a planned start date for design team appointment for the project late 2024, with completion of the feasibility study in July 2025 and a contract start on site after a fundraising campaign in circa summer 2027.
