Upgrade of Met Éireann's Satellite Observation Handling System

Published

Value

250,000 EUR

Description

Met Éireann, Ireland’s National Meteorological Service, looks to upgrade its satellite observation handling system. It currently receives satellite meteorology data from the EUMETCast Satellite dissemination service using an antenna-based reception system at its headquarters in Dublin. Met Éireann is also in the process of establishing additional connections to the EUMETCast Terrestrial service at both its headquarters and a second data centre in Dublin, to increase resilience and redundancy in its satellite data supply. The primary aim of this procurement is to upgrade Met Éireann’s satellite observation handling system to ensure continuity of data supply, capacity for higher data rates and new data types from next-generation satellites, and to increase the resilience and geo-redundancy of this important data source. This procurement looks to achieve the following: -Obtain system layout and design guidance for an upgraded satellite reception and processing system; -Procure hardware components to facilitate the reception and processing of current and next-generation meteorological satellite observations by the satellite system. The key hardware components shall include two antenna-dish receivers, six DVB units and required cabling. Complete component requirements will be finalised based on the system design agreed upon with the Contractor; -Procure service for the replacement/installation of required hardware for new system; -Procure the required software for the handling and processing of satellite observations on the reception and processing servers, and the installation of this software; -Procure service to test and commission the new system to receive and process data from EUMETCast dissemination services; -Ensure processed data outputted by the new system is compatible with Met Éireann’s visualisation and assimilation systems; -Procure maintenance and service plan to cover the new system once operational. With an increase in satellite data rates expected within 2024, the capacity of the supplier to perform the replacement of the system within a short time frame will be an important element.
