Description
The design intent of the project is to modernise the existing Mallow Swimming Pool building in line with current trends in leisure facilities. An extension to the front of the complex and internal upgrade of the existing building will allow for new changing facilities, additional staff facilities, a new modern entrance and enhanced user experience. In addition, it is intended to reduce reliance on fossil fuel energy sources and replace with a more sustainable energy source, reduce energy losses and reduce running costs. Mallow Swimming Pool is located adjacent to New Street in Mallow Town. The facility is generally used for recreational swimming, coaching and swimming competitions. The existing building was constructed in circa mid-nineties and consists of a single storey building (1136m2) which incorporates a 25 x 9m main Pool and a 5 x 8m learner pool, associated changing rooms, cafeteria, spectator viewing area, entrance foyer, staff office, plant room and chemical store. Externally there is an access road and vehicle parking areas. The overall plan is to upgrade the changing facilities from individual changing rooms to a village style changing area. Provide a new reception, administration and staff facilities and visitor’s room. A small extension is to be constructed to facilitate this. It is also proposed to retile the ground floor, pool deck and pool tank areas. It is also proposed to carry out some small scale works to external areas, including the provision of a new ESB substation. The fabric upgrade of the building consists of replacing the roof with a new roof panel, provide external insulation to walls, provide new windows and doors. Considerable Mechanical and Electrical works are also to be undertaken comprising replacing the existing AHUs with new AHUs. Replacing the existing ground source heat pump with a new water to water heat pump and the provision of a new air to water heat pump. All electric services are to be replaced as new complete with a new ESB substation.
