Sport Wales Consultants for the Mental Health and Thriving Environments

The appointed consultants will play a crucial role in supporting Sport Wales and its partners to embed a relational, trauma-informed approach to mental health and well-being across the sport sector. Their work will contribute to strategic planning, resource development, facilitation, and collaboration to drive sustainable impact. The consultants’ responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 1. Embedding Mental Well-being and Thriving Environments in Sport • Supporting partners to integrate a relational and trauma-informed approach to mental health and well-being within sport and physical activity. • Practical application of a relational approach: Designing and delivering workshops, training sessions, and resources that empower organisations to apply well-being-focused practices. • Providing specialist project support to initiatives that enhance mental well-being through sport. 2. Facilitating Strategic Discussions and Thought Leadership • Leading and supporting national and regional discussions on the role of sport in mental health and preventive health agendas. • Assisting partners with strategic planning and implementation, ensuring well-being principles are embedded in policy, funding, and program design. • Enabling cross-sector collaboration to strengthen the impact of sport on community well-being 3. Driving Knowledge Sharing and Best Practice • Facilitating the exchange of learning, insights, and evidence-based practices across sports organisations, health providers, and community partners. • Developing and curating case studies, toolkits, and reports to promote effective mental well-being initiatives. 4. Supporting Collaboration and External Engagement • Helping partners navigate and align their work with national well-being strategies. 5. Strengthening the Evidence Base for Sport and Mental Well-being • Supporting research, data analysis, and evaluation to expand the evidence base on how sport contributes to mental health, resilience, and preventive healthcare. • Identifying emerging opportunities for sport to play a more central role in mental health and well-being strategies. 6. Supporting Welsh Government Policy Alignment and Delivery • Advising on the integration of sport into public health frameworks, advocating for movement-based mental health interventions. The appointed consultants will work in a collaborative and adaptive capacity, ensuring that sport is positioned as a key driver of mental well-being, resilience, and community health across Wales. N.B. Consultants will be allocated to different priority areas dependent upon their skills and experience. Consultants do not need to specialise in all areas to apply to become a consultant, please reference your specialist skills and experience in the tender submission (section 4). It is important that candidates have a knowledge of: • A trauma informed approach to Mental health and Wellbeing • Thriving Environments within sport • Experience of co-designing services with stakeholders to influence and support the sport sector • Application of academic ideas into practical deliverables to meet the needs of partners There will also be an expectation to collaborate with other stakeholders. There is an expectation that any staff delivering workshops/ support to partners will have at least three years of experience in delivering/supporting leaders. It is desirable that any psychologist is HCPC registered.
