Description

This questionnaire is intended to inform the available technologies for an Eastern HVDC link: 2 schemes below have been proposed: 1) A 2 000 MW link from Torness to Hawthorne Pit, for delivery in 2027 (NOA code E2DC); 2) A 2 000 MW link from Peterhead to Drax, for delivery in 2029 (NOA code E4D3). In order to inform the potential technologies which could be utilised for these HVDC schemes, you are invited to return the attached questionnaire setting out the potential capabilities offered by your company. This Periodic Indicative Notice (PIN) is not a call for competition, but intended to commence preliminary market engagement. The Network Options Assessment (NOA) is published annually in January by National Grid System Operator. The latest version gives “Proceed” signals to 2 HVDC schemes: 1) A 2 000 MW link from Torness to Hawthorne Pit, for delivery in 2027 (NOA code E2DC); 2) A 2 000 MW link from Peterhead to Drax, for delivery in 2029 (NOA code E4D3). The instruction to “Proceed” is not an investment decision, however it does require the relevant transmission owners to progress all necessary pre-construction development activities consistent with ensuring the delivery dates can be met. National Grid Transmission Owner (NGTO), Scottish Power Transmission (SPT) and Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission (SHET) are therefore jointly taking forward co-ordinated development activity on both projects and this questionnaire is intended to inform that activity, with SHET issuing this on behalf of all 3 parties. In order to inform the potential technologies which could be utilised for these HVDC schemes, you are invited to return the attached questionnaire setting out the potential capabilities offered by your company. https://www.nationalgrid.com/uk/publications/network-options-assessment-noa To obtain the questionnaire please contact Damien.Walsh@sse.com. Closing date: 25.2.2019, 04:00 pm.
