Waterways Ireland - Aghoo Pedestrian Road Underpass, Co. Leitrim.

Published

Value

600,000 EUR

Description

Previously Waterways Ireland and Leitrim County Council prepared planning documentation for the construction of a 390m long walkway between Aghoo Bridge and Lock 4. An outline design was developed for Part 8 planning approval, which was obtained in December 2020. The proposed 390m long trail crosses the R204 Regional Road and would require prospective trail users to cross a busy road with poor alignment. However, the Road Safety audit recommended the construction of a grade separated underpass for pedestrians to pass safely beneath the road. The new underpass structure will tie-in with existing footpaths connecting either side of the bridge and link to a new trail head at Lock 4 (400m east). The new underpass is the subject of this Work Requirements Document. The site is in a rural area located south of the town Ballinamore. The working area is located along the Ballinamore Canal and the Ballinamore Walkway and Cycle Trail. The surrounding area consists of agricultural and forestry land, the R204 and adjoining local roads, and scattered residential, agricultural, and commercial construction.
