Description

Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) has a requirement to procure a number of ecological surveys to meet our requirement to manage the national forest estate. The survey requirements were previously met by numerous suppliers through the following contractual relationships: — framework reference: FESH01- open habitat surveys, — framework reference: FW0015- ecological support on forest estate, — framework reference: FW0016- Dothistroma Needle Blight and Tree health Surveys. Survey requirements procured through these frameworks include; Pre-operational Surveys: surveying an area programmed for forestry or other management in order to identify ecological constraints that will need to be considered by FLS when planning the proposed management; Terrestrial and Aquatic species and habitats surveys; surveys for conservation management purposes and will generally aim to map the presence or absence, or distribution, or abundance of single species or a suite of species, or the habitat of these species. The provision of conservation management advice for species and habitats is another aspect of this work type. This may be requested as a follow-on from survey work, or as a free-standing piece of work. Vascular plant, bryophyte, lichen, and fungi surveys: for conservation management purposes and for pre-operational purposes as detailed above; Ancient semi-natural woodland (ASNW) and Plantation on Ancient Woodland Site (PAWS) condition assessments together with Herbivore Impact Assessments (HIA): Monitoring will be required to assess the condition of ancient Woodland Sites and other semi-natural woodlands; Tree Health Surveys: analysis and recording of tree health including mortality assessments, needle retention assessments, and looking for signs of specific diseases including Dothistroma Needle Blight, Chalara, Peri and any new strains of tree diseases that may be deemed a threat to the national forest estate (Scotland); and Surveys of UK BAP Priority Habitats: Utilising FLS survey method to record habitats on the national forest estate(Scotland).
