Description

When the 100 000 Genomes Project (100 KGP) started the state of maturity of the genomics industry was such that Genomics England was required to test and integrate numerous components in order to build a whole genome sequencing (WGS) diagnostic pipeline that would work reliably at a scale of more than 1 000 genomes per week. Having achieved this, the same pipeline is being developed as the core platform for the Genomic Medicine Service (GMS) With the 100 KGP nearing a successful conclusion, work is underway to implement a Genomic Medicine Service (GMS) commissioned by NHS England in England. Supporting this will be the National Genomics Infrastructure System (NGIS), due to go live in October 2018. The implementation will be a global first. No other nation has a country-wide commissioned GMS in patient care settings. Genomics England is looking for a partner or partners to work with on the development of a throughly tested pipeline to take advantage of the global opportunities. Having achieved this, the same pipeline is being developed as the core platform for the Genomic Medicine Service (GMS). With the 100 KGP nearing a successful conclusion, work is underway to implement a Genomic Medicine Service (GMS) commissioned by NHS England in England. Supporting this will be the National Genomics Infrastructure System (NGIS), due to go live in October 2018. The implementation will be a global first. No other nation has a country-wide commissioned GMS in patient care settings. With the completion of the 100 KGP and the commencement of the national Genomic Medicine Service it is expected that the government will endorse a new imaginative stretching target with the aim of being as simulative to innovation and development as the 100 KGP target was in 2012. Consequently, Genomics England is looking for a partner or partners to work with on: a) The ongoing development of NGIS to capture the best and most appropriate global technologies within it; b) The release of progressively improved versions of NGIS that are thoroughly tested within proven framework; c) The operation of a service to the NHS based on NGIS; and d) The marketing of NGIS to global customers. GeL is looking to establish partnership(s) with one or more partners who can bring much more than a standard systems integration and operation service to bear. Partners will be expected to demonstrate: a) A commitment to genomics medicine in their ordinary business including access to genomic data to test and validate pipelines; b) an ability to bring innovative approaches to key elements of the pipeline extending beyond IT; c) Global reach; d) Innovative proposals for cost sharing the developments and services; e) A willingness to share risk as we develop and embed new approaches to genomics; and f) Innovative proposals for marketing NGIS (or relevant components of it) to global customers. This PIN states that the contract notice will not be in Lots. This will be determined through the pre-market consultation as a result of this notice and Genomics England reserves the right to consider Lot arrangements for the future opportunity.
