QUB/2665/24 Contract for the Supply, Delivery, Installation, Commissioning, Calibration and Maintenance of a Millimeter-wave (mmWave) Beamforming Transmitter, Receiver and Interferer.

Published

Description

Queen's University Belfast seeks to enhance its research capabilities in 5G/B5G/6G mmWave technology. The required equipment will be used to develop and emulate a mmWave 5G base station (BS), a user equipment (UE) pair, and an interfering transmitter (interfering UE).

Specifically, the university requires the following:

• Transmitter mmWave Beamforming Phased Array
Preferably a uniform rectangular array, emulating a mmWave 5G BS antenna.

o Operational Frequency: 26.5-29.5 GHz
o Channels: > 12
o Control Interfaces available

This beamformer will serve as a tool for mmWave signal transmission, providing precise control over signal parameters across multiple channels.

• Receiver mmWave Beamforming Phased Array
A uniform linear or rectangular array, emulating a mmWave 5G UE antenna.

o Operational Frequency: 26.5-29.5 GHz.
o Channels: > 2
o Control Interfaces available

This compact beamformer will be used to emulate a UE or handset antenna, requiring fewer channels.

• Standalone 5G mmWave Tx/Rx antenna or phased array
Includes a phased antenna array and standalone LNA/Amplifier, covering frequencies between 26.5-29.5 GHz. This equipment will be used as an interfering UE in the BS-UE pair experiments described above.

• Up/Down Converters
Required for each beamformer with an RF operational range of 26.5-29.5 GHz. These converters are essential for frequency conversion tasks in the development and testing of mmWave signals.

• 2xUSRP Software Defined Radio (SDR)

These should have ADC and DAC resolutions of 10+ bits, sampling rate: 150+ MS/s, and frequency range of 5+ GHz

• Cables and Connectors
The contract will also include all necessary RF and IF cables with the required configurations (K-type, SMA, 2.92 Plug), ensuring seamless integration from the Rx to Tx side, as well as for the interfering beamformer setup.
