Description
West Wales Rivers Trust (WWRT) are working with Swansea University to deliver a series of fish passage and river habitat improvements within the West Wales catchment, under the ‘Reconnecting the Salmon Rivers of Wales’ project. WWRT have identified Maes y Betws weir, on the Afon Afan, as a structure that this posing a barrier to fish migration and impounding the watercourse. Whilst WWRT are experienced in the delivery of fish passage improvements, we are seeking assistance with the feasibility and design of partial or full improvement options for this barrier, to ensure that any proposed actions do not increase flood and erosion risks. The production of a feasibility report outlining the opportunities for improved fish passage and geomorphic processes at this site, backed up by ground investigations and modelling, will enable WWRT to take forward fish passage and habitat improvements to Maes y Bettws weir with greater confidence.
