Die Landeshauptstadt Düsseldorf (LHD) ist Host-City der UEFA EURO 2024 in Deutschland. Die Veranstaltung wird im Sommer 2024 (14.06.2024 bis zum 14.07.2024) stattfinden und Menschen aus aller Welt nach Düsseldorf führen. Die LHD ist dabei verantwortlich für die Einrichtung und den Betrieb der diversen Fan Zonen. Zu diesen zählt auch das Fan Village Gustaf-Gründgens-Platz, das wiederum mit dem Schauspielhaus Open Air verknüpft ist. Aufgrund der unmittelbaren Nähe zum Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus soll auf dieser Fan Zone der Fokus auf Kultur gelenkt werden. Die Landeshauptstadt Düsseldorf beabsichtigt, das Schauspielhaus am Fan Village künstlerisch besonders in Szene zu setzen und zum „Fan-kulturellen“ Zentrum des Fußballevents zu machen. Zu diesem Zweck wird der Künstler Wolfram Lenssen mit der künstlerischen Gesamtumsetzung in einem Verhandlungsverfahren gemäß § 14 Abs. 4 Nr. 2 Buchstabe a VgV beauftragt, um eine einzigartige künstlerische Leistung in Düsseldorf zu erschaffen.
