North East London Integrated Care Board is seeking to procure a Lead Provider for Maternity Peer Support Services. The aim of the maternity peer support service is to recruit and train women from local communities to provide emotional and practical support to women during pregnancy, childbirth and the early months of family life. The service will provide short term and longer-term support to meet the needs of pregnant women and new mothers. This service aims to support mothers to have a positive pregnancy and birth experience, develop social networks, increase access to support services and promote a positive start to parenthood, including breastfeeding and safe formula feeding. This will be achieved by: - Accredited training and supporting local women to become volunteer peer supporters ensuring they feel supported, valued, involved and listened to. - Providing non-judgmental and consistent individual support for isolated and vulnerable women and their families throughout pregnancy, childbirth and up to the first 3 months of family life. - Promotion of the benefits of antenatal and postnatal care and breastfeeding - Supporting with basic family needs in housing, financial and immigration insecurities, with paperwork, appointments and onward referrals, to overcome these challenges to ensure mum can focus on pregnancy, labour and ongoing family life. - Ensuring pregnant women have knowledge around all options available to them and feel empowered to make their own decisions and therefore have the best possible birth outcome and the healthiest possible start in life for their children. - The collation of data about the mothers who have been supported by peer supporters; to understand possible improved clinical and wellbeing outcomes. - Building links between midwifery services and the voluntary and community sector, developing positive working relationships to ensure the best possible birth outcomes for these women. - Listening and acting upon the needs of local women from disadvantaged communities. - Being a voice for these groups of women and representing their views when requested. The contract is expected to commence 1st April 2025 for an initial period of 1 year. The contract may be extended for an additional period of 1+1 years at the sole discretion of the Authority if all extensions are taken the contract end date would be 31st March 2026. The annual contract value Is £199,470. The maximum contract value is £598,410.
