Aberdeen City Council (The Council) are seeking an experience street art/ mural design service to supply of large scale murals to celebrate the achievements of the footballer Denis Law within his childhood community Printfield, Aberdeen. This is the second stage of the project ‘Denis Law Legacy Trail’ Lot 1: Aberdeen City Council identified the Denis Law public trail as a priority project and secured a budget to support a first phase with an expected delivery date by 2024. Funded through UK Shared Prosperity Funding and The Common Good Fund. The project was first proposed on the 3rd of March 2020, when the Council resolved to welcome the Printfield Community working in partnership with the Denis Law Legacy Trust to promote Denis Law’s childhood roots in Printfield. Initial concepts were developed by RGU and the Denis Law Legacy Trust who also own some photographs of Denis Law during his career. Denis Law Legacy Trust. Printfield legacy for Denis Law can be a "game-changer" — Denis Law Legacy Trust . The project involved has been broken into two stages, the first is a 10 location trail public art across Printfield which is in the process of being commissioned. The second stage, which is the subject of this ITT, is the creation of 2 landmark murals on Clifton Court to act as a gateway to the trail and the city of Aberdeen Denis Law Murals (phase 2) location and concepts As a gateway to the Denis Law Legacy Trail a series of 2 landmark murals have been proposed as part of the overall concept. The main murals are intended to be an artist’s impression based on iconic images of Denis Law scoring for Manchester United (concept images supplied separately for reference). These murals would be on Clifton Court, Woodside, Aberdeen AB24 4AG a 9 storey retirement housing complex built in 1973 and run by Aberdeen City Council. In principle permission from the landowners is in place subject to final planning application permission (advertising consent) and artist design response. Clifton Court The initial concept proposes a mural on the North and East rendered panel gable end, each side would be around 500m2. The North face is painted white, and East is unpainted roughcast render. An additional document of Images of Clifton Court, including close ups of the wall surface have been included for reference. Key Requirements - Provide up to 2 mural designs for the proposed locations. These should be artistic interpretations of Denis Law’s iconic football moments. Image licence rights will be secured by the Denis Law Legacy Trust for the use in design. - With support from Officers, undertake a consultation exercise with residents of Clifton Court. - Undertake all production management responsibilities for the delivery of the murals, including production plan, securing necessary permissions, installation project management, , risk management, install hire requirements (cherry picker etc). - Undertake any wall surface preparation works required to ensure good paint adhesion for the mural, this can be undertaken by the Bidder directly or through sub-contraction of a qualified supplier. - Submitting project plan to the Public Art Panel Aberdeen for review and taking responsibility for any necessary planning or licencing applications which are required to deliver the work. - Work and engage with the Council, Denis Law Legacy Trust, Printfield community and the phase 1 commissioned artists to ensure continuity between both projects to provide a high quality public trail experience. - Murals should be executed to a high quality with materials to perform to a minimum expected life span of approx. 10 years, the supplier will provide a maintenance plan and outline costings. The Bidder must: - Have a strong proven track record in their art form. - Have experience of working in the public realm. - Have experience of working with multi-disciplinary teams. - Be able to work and deliver to timescales and be an excellent project manager. - Be willing to engage with stakeholders during concept development, final artwork development, and installation.
