Description

NWIS are looking to procure an all Wales (SACT) ePrescribing Solution. SACT encompasses both biological therapy and cytotoxic chemotherapy (a group of medicines containing chemicals directly toxic to cells preventing their replication or growth). SACT, including chemotherapy, has been provided in the NHS for decades but no national recording of treatment has previously existed, this is therefore a new approach to service delivery. NWIS will be hosting a supplier engagement day on 10.10.2019, the agenda will be confirmed in due course, allowing NWIS to engage with the market and understand what products/solutions are now available. We anticipate the day to include an NWIS overview of the requirements, followed by breakout sessions with individual suppliers to discuss their specific solutions. Following the day, NWIS will develop a scoping document that will be issued to suppliers requesting them to respond with indicative costs that will be used to inform our business case. NWIS is looking to procure an all Wales SACT ePrescribing Solution, for a period of a 10+ years. The rational for this is as follows: Currently across Wales there is a single system supplier but there are varying instances of the e prescribing system. With an All Wales we are seeking to deliver: — reduce duplication of activity and inefficiencies in patient flow, — improve resilience in infrastructure support e.g. separate servers, — standardise the data collection across Wales and mandate a Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) dataset, — improve resource allocation across each health board to reduce duplication and improve efficiencies, — minimise variation in treatments across Wales by providing all Wales evidence based treatment protocols and regimens, — support more effective use and preparation of high cost drugs including reducing wastage, missed opportunities for collaborative preparation for SACT treatments, — develop national reporting to support national benchmarking, audit, patient access and rebate schemes and also to support improved procurement of high cost drugs, — improve patient safety particularly where the management of cancer patients crosses organisational boundaries.
