Preliminary market consultation to inform requirements for a future contract to support delivery of a community return scheme on Orkney. Zero Waste Scotland has been asked by the Scottish Government to lead on development and delivery of a community return scheme on Orkney - referred to hereafter as the 'Orkney Container Return Initiative' (or OCRI). This preliminary market consultation is being used to gather information and insight into options for the OCRI, from the type and availability of suitable Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) for commissioning through to community benefits that could be accrued through implementation of the scheme, both directly and indirectly across the wider Orkney Islands Council area. Two questionnaires have been published as Additional Documents to this Prior Information Notice: – the first questionnaire (“Infrastructure Supply”) is intended to investigate the key requirements to ensuring a suitable RVM with secure and appropriate housing is installed and tested for commencement of operation on 01 November 2022 - the second questionnaire (“Community Benefits”) is intended to identify the range of options and opportunities for wider community engagement and benefits that may be possible and appropriate from that date. Interested parties are invited to complete a questionnaire and return their response to Zero Waste Scotland by 14:00 on Wednesday 04 May 2022 to ensure their response is available for further consideration. Information gathered during this stage of the process will be reviewed to identify the most appropriate method for securing the necessary resources for the duration of the OCRI.
