Provision, Commissioning & Installation of Auxiliary Device for Turning Tungsten Carbides

Published

Description

The UCD School of Mechanical & Materials Engineering has a need to process tungsten carbide molds by diamond turning. However, tungsten carbide is a hard and brittle material which is difficult to machine. There is a serious tool wear with poor surface roughness using conventional turning techniques. Therefore, a device (or approach) is required to assist machining the tungsten carbide, which should be able to be mounted on the diamond turning machine.
