Description

This project is about replacing a downgraded chiller unit, and carrying out modifications in the current CHW system, including an installation of a Low loss Header and all associated 3 port valves, pumps and controls, replacing distribution pipework in risers from basement -2 through to the roof level, installation of a side stream filter, installation of PRV's and carrying out a controls upgrade, to improve the cooling resilience of the building and mainly improve the process cooling system resilience. The importance of this project is related to the fact that London Centre of Nanotechnology (LCN) cooling system provides critical cooling to virtually all experimental equipment in the LCN building, which provides state of the art nanofabrication facilities for a wide community of researchers within LCN, and across UCL, including significant research projects in the departments of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry and Medicine. External cleanroom users from both industry and academe (including the Crick, Imperial and Kings) bring in significant resources to LCN. The building activities are very sensitive to vibration, and special considerations will need to be given to this factor.
