The service requires the removal and disposal of hazardous waste material that is generated in laboratories across the buildings of the University of Galway. The service will reflect and avail of the Best Available Techniques (BAT) criteria to ensure the highest environmental and health and safety standards in support of the EPA's National Hazardous Waste Management Plan 2014-2020. Emphasis to be placed on the Waste Management Hierarchy and energy recovery of treated Hazardous Risk Waste (HRW). The contractor will demonstrate green practices in the management of hazardous waste, by minimising the generation, collection, transport, treatment, and disposal of waste, and by applying the principles of prevention, reuse, recycling, recovery, and safe disposal. The contractor will also comply with the relevant environmental legislation, standards, and guidelines, and will monitor and report on the environmental performance and impact of their activities. The contractor will seek to reduce the carbon footprint, energy consumption, and greenhouse gas emissions of their operations, and will use environmentally friendly technologies and products whenever possible. The contractor will also promote environmental awareness and education among their staff, clients, and stakeholders, and will engage in continuous improvement of their green practices.
