Description
University of Edinburgh has a requirement for a high-speed liquid cooled CNC controlled spinning disc saw machine to undertake precision cuts of various materials, advanced carbon fibre in particular. The objective is to carry out precision cuts with minimum edge abrasion/fraying. The users have ruled out laser, water-jet and milling as appropriate options for the requirement based on tests because these options cause too much edge abrasion for the required research purposes; as such this requirement is specifically for a spinning-disc saw. The award will be for the machine; installation and commissioning and initial pre-user testing; and manufacturers labour and parts warranty for 1 year. It is anticipated that services and spares with awarded supplier may be extended to a period of 5 years (6-year total agreement length). The Bidder and their machine should fulfil the following minimum specification; Machine -Saw must be capable of a potential rotation speed of 4500rpm -Spindle power of at least 2kW -Panel size up to 600mm to 600mm with a cut depth of 20mm -Should have a cooling system to keep workpiece at a safe temperature and avoid searing/burning. Fluid cooling/misting using water or coolant is assumed but others will be considered. Cooling and drainage systems should have appropriate filters and waste capture to protect pump components and ensure reliability -Capable of taking a range of blades, 200-300mm -Can run off standard UK power e.g. 240 V, 415 V industrial -User-friendly programming interface with comprehensive documentation -Should have a range of features to protect operators and humans sharing the work environment of the machine; machine should comply with UK Health and Safety standards and industry best practice for Health and Safety -Noise to not exceed reasonable amounts for an industrial environment -Interlocks are essential Support and spares -1 year manufacturer warranty to be provided -Supplier should also be able to provide consumables (including blades) -Spares and repairs must be available for at least 5 years after the point of purchase Delivery Quote to be on DDP basis as per 2020 Incoterms, with delivery into the lab environment; University of Edinburgh facilities team will support with access guidance and chaperoning. Site access; Must be able to fit through double doors of maximum width 1800mm Lot 1: University of Edinburgh has a requirement for a high-speed liquid cooled CNC controlled spinning disc saw machine to undertake precision cuts of various materials, advanced carbon fibre in particular.
