Donegal County Council proposes to upgrade the existing R263 with the provision of a new road commencing at the roundabout on the Western end of the Killybegs Relief Road and extending approximately 2km to the West. The proposed road will provide an improved alignment, cross section and provision for pedestrians and cyclists. The project will include: a) A new bridge crossing of the Fintra River on the realigned R263. b) The realignment of approximately 1.4km of road infrastructure and cross-sectional improvements. c) A new c.2km pedestrian and cycle route between the Killybegs Relief Road and access to Fintra Beach Works will also include, but are not limited to, the following: - Significant earthworks including excavation and filling and the disposal of surplus material; - Utilities diversions; - Drainage works; - Pavement construction; - Works on and adjacent to live carriageways along a narrow and winding alignment; - Works adjacent to and over woodland; - Traffic management including temporary traffic routing to keep the Regional Road open at all times; - In-situ concrete; - Fabrication and erection of steelwork; - Placing both precast and in-situ concrete on concrete beams to form the bridge deck; - Installing lighting; - Safety barriers, bridge parapet and handrails; - Tie-ins to the existing road at either end, and where the new alignment crosses the existing road - Tie-ins with a number of side roads and accesses.
