1.8 Effective infection prevention is the foundation of ensuring the wellbeing of anyone who accesses healthcare services and this is reflected in Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust’s aim to maintaining high standards of infection prevention within its premises. In addition, the Trust has a statutory duty under the Health Act 2006 and the Health and Social Care Act 2008 “to provide and maintain a clean and appropriate environment”. The Code of Practice under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 further requires in its criterion compliance that the implementation and maintenance of “systems to manage and monitor the prevention and control infection and that providers “maintain a clean and manged premises that facilitate the prevention and control of infections“ The expectation of how this requirement should be generally applied is detailed in the subsequent guidance on National Specifications for Cleanliness in the NHS issued in April 2007 by the National Safety Agency. This sets out standards by which performance outcomes are measured. To support this visual monitoring, Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to continue it use of a robust scientific environmental cleanliness monitoring system, using hand-held devices for the three year period. It is forecast that 8 hand held devices and docking station will be required and these must be provided along with the necessary insurances
