Description
(For more information, please see Guidance notes for Clients section i.) Valley Brook Restoration project must be delivered in this financial year 23/24. Reaches 10 and 9 are the first two sections of Valley brook from Queens Park to Collins street in Crewe SJ6895355468 - SJ6942655502 and the extent is approximately a 300m section. Valley Brook runs through the town of Crewe in Cheshire with the water course running through a highly urban setting. Valley Brook is a very important case river to enable the developing scalable solutions for the issues of constrained and heavily modified urban water bodies which will provide learning and solutions both within GMMC and beyond. This failing urban water body demonstrates many the pressures faced by similar water bodies. It also provides a range of demonstration potential both of a full suite of WFD mitigation measures but also delivery challenges and partnership/funding and wider benefit opportunities. Mitigation measures were identified by JBA in a report in 2019 and they were commission under the EcoSF3 framework to design a scheme that will meet these measures. Cheshire East are also installing an active travel route which will run alongside the brook in reaches 8, 7 and 6, further upstream from SJ6990155354 to SJ7024355337 and will provide funding in future years to install features for those sections too but this will be outside of this contract. Currently, JBA have provided a detailed design to improve the biodiversity of the channel in reaches 10 and 9. It is a very sinuous channel and these features to be installed should help to bring the diversity to the channel bed. The features for installation are as follows and section details are below: • Riffle beds, • Gravel bars and • Coir Rolls Both reaches have been developed and detailed designs have been completed. This project will be construction only. The EA will require a build contractor; however, they will be required to liaise with JBA to develop the design if necessary and any changes to the design will need to be approved by the EA. The successful Contractor will carry out all works in accordance with current Legislation, industry standards and codes of practice, processes and permitting including any guidance documents. It is anticipated that specific clause amendments will be incorporated, allocating risks associated with the foreseeable impacts of Covid-19.]
