There are a number of significant technical hurdles in designing, building and operating large superconducting magnets with remountable joints (RMJs), most notably the need for repeatable, reliable ultra-low resistance connections. There is a requirement to support to provide an unbiased expert review of the programme and hence allow for adjustments that will ultimately enable effective delivery on the ambitious timescales set out by STEP.
