Description

The Ruminant Nutrition Unit is a research team within the Sustainable Agri-Food Sciences Division (SAFSD) of Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI), based at Hillsborough. The Ruminant Nutrition Unit wishes to purchase eighteen Digestibility crates (160 cm x 97 cm x 190 cm) for sheep and calves. The Digestibility crates are used to individually confine animals (sheep or calf), and monitor their daily feed intakes as well as their faeces and urine outputs for a specified period of time (usually not more than 7 days). The crates have feed boxes for providing feed to the animals, and a provision for allowing them all time access to drinking water. The daily faeces and urine outputs of each animal are collected separately underneath the floor of the crate. The floor of the crate is designed in such a way to allow separate collection of faeces and urine underneath.
