The Welsh Government is seeking to award a contract for Animal Health Improvement Cycle and Vet Training (AHIC) to work with a selection of farmers and veterinarians to ‘road test’ the AHIC on a range of sheep, beef and dairy farm types across Wales and communicate learning. The animal health and welfare aspects of the plan are described in more detail in: Animal health and welfare framework: implementation plan 2022 to 2024 | GOV.WALES. This document outlines the proposed working of the Animal Health Improvement Cycle (AHIC) on (page19). Veterinary Training The successful bidder will need to develop a ‘Community of Practice’ for animal health planning and improvement within the veterinary profession in Wales, to deliver the veterinary capability for veterinarians to contribute to the AHIC element of the Sustainable Farming Scheme (SFS), to a consistently excellent standard. It is anticipated that, over time, the core of this Veterinary Community will develop to be able to provide oversight and advice to veterinarians delivering the scheme to farmers.
