Description

The Norwegian Institute of Marine Research currently uses the omni directional sonars ‘Simrad SU90’ and ‘Simrad SH90’ at the vessels and wishes to expand the capacity of long range low frequency sonars. The Norwegian Institute of Marine Research has, over a period, developed tools and methods for utilising sonar data in our stock assessments for a number pelagic species. The Institute wishes to develop this to become an important contribution in the data collection for use in stock assessments. The tools have been further developed over many years use of Simrad's sonars and are based on the data format these deliver. The new sonars must provide a compatible data format and have good dynamic range. It is also necessary to ensure continuity and compatibility between all data collections at the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research's vessels. The Norwegian Institute of Marine Research currently requires two omni directional sonars that fulfill the stated qualities and the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research's knowledge of the market shows that only ‘Simrad SU90’, delivered by Kongsberg Maritime, is able to comply with this qualities. The Norwegian Institute of Marine Research therefore intends to enter into contract with Kongsberg Maritime for the procurement of two ‘Simrad SU90 fish finding sonars’.
