Oliver's Playground Refurbishment, Colehill Dorset
Published
Description
We are seeking to refurbish the children's playground at Oliver's Park, Colehill, Dorset. The playground has 3 areas: infants, juniors and swings. This tender is focused on provision of new play equipment for infants (age 1 to 8), and new swings. We want to create the best play area we can within budget and are open to alternative designs that will be exciting and attractive for children, whilst being as robust and long-lasting as possible. The infant area measures approx. 19m x 15m and includes a wooden multi-play unit which has deteriorated significantly and a Camel springer both of which can be removed. A Duo disc may be removed or re-sited. The only item in this area we would want to retain is the see-saw, which can be re-sited if required. The other items should be removed and replaced with a mix of equipment covering the full 1 to 8 age range. The swing area measures approx. 10m x 8m. The existing swing frame is deteriorating and we would like it replaced with new swings, which can be re-sited if required. Ideally we would like a toddler seat, two junior seats and a basket swing if space allows. The junior area (age 8-12) has a large multi-play unit and small boulders for climbing on, all of which we would like to be retain. There are also 4 speaker tubes installed around the site which should be retained. We have no preconceived ideas on the layout of the refurbished play area nor the new equipment to be supplied, other than the requirements above. Equipment and installation must be fully compliant to playground standards BSEN1176. Old equipment should be removed and safely disposed of, recycling where practical. The playground area is surrounded by recently installed (modular and removable) fencing and gates, maintenance or improvement of which is not part of this tender. Retaining walls made have recently been installed on the site made from Kedel Recycled Plastic Brown Sleepers. Any additional walls proposed should be in the same material. The existing benches are also excluded from this tender, other than a possible re-siting to fit any proposals. The playground is adjacent to a woodland, so we would prefer timber or other naturalistic materials and/or colours that fit with the surroundings where practical. The equipment should be robust, long-lasting and as vandal-proof as possible. We welcome proposals for accessible equipment and making the playground more inclusive. We are happy to retain the existing woodchip playground surface, but are also open to alternative playground surfaces as part of the proposal. Visuals and drawings should be provided as part of the tender. These will be used in a public consultation with residents and park users to help us select the final design. We would like contractors to propose the best equipment and design they can deliver at two different price points, £50,000 ex VAT and £70,000 ex VAT. See the attached specification for additional instructions on how to apply, sketch map and photos.
