Description

Electro-optic in-phase and quadrature modulator and automated bias controller board. Lot 1: The in-phase and quadrature modulator is a nested Mach-Zehnder modulator based on Lithium Niobate which is used to modulate single frequency sidebands of the laser beam. The bias controller automatically adjusts the biases of the modulator to operate in single sideband mode with carrier suppression. The automated bias controller board works together with an in-phase and quadrature modulator. The 7 pairs to be ordered are supposed to be installed in 7 independent quantum key distribution systems. The modulator and bias controller are a component of DTU’s continuous-variable quantum key distribution system QTREX. DTU has the following requirements: - Minimum required extinction ratio at 1550 nm: 30 dB - Minimum required sideband suppression ratio: 30 dB - Minimum requirement: Maximum insertion loss 7 dB - Minimum requirement: Single polarization operation - Minimum requirement: Polarization-Maintaining fibers - Minimum requirement: Constant electro-optic transfer function in the frequency range 10-200 MHz - Minimum requirement: The automated bias controller must be a OEM version that can be integrated into a system, i.e. it shall be a printed circuit board. - Proven operation in the QTREX continuous-variable quantum key distribution system allows for minimal costs for component testing and integration - Component from a European supplier to establish a European supply chain for the quantum key distribution devices.
