Description

The DTU Department of Biotechnology and Biomedicine wants to buy two fluorescence-assisted cell sorter (FACS) instruments. The two FACS instruments will be platform instrumentation in two different facilities at the department. The two facilities are closely collaborating, require the same instrument specifications, and may have overlapping users, thus the potential to compare results between the two instruments is important. The cell sorters will be used for multiple purposes including, but not limited to, single cell analysis (e.g., proteomics and transcriptomics), mammalian cell engineering for cell line- and production clone development, and isolation of cell subpopulations (both bacteria and mammalian cells) for down-stream assays incl. immune cell functionality. Therefore, we need a very versatile instrument with respect to optical specifications that allow detection of both fluorescent proteins as well as identification and isolation of cellular subpopulations using standard panels of fluorescently conjugated antibodies and functionality dyes. The potential to sort single cells at high velocity into 348 well plates is of high importance as is the ability to sort under aseptic conditions and to prevent cross-contamination be-tween samples/users. The instrument will be operated by multiple users from different academic levels and therefore automatic setup, calibration, and QC as well as ease-of-use and wizard-guided procedures is of high importance. The instruments will also be used as a service facility for fee-based analyses and sortings for users outside of the department.
