Control is only likely to be required between April and November, a rapid response is required, successful destruction within 5 days of notification. Yellow legged hornet nests are often at significant height often more than 10 meters in the canopy of trees, they will actively defend a nest so safe methods of working at height while sufficiently protected from stings and control treatments. Ideally the nests should be treated in the evening as Yellow legged hornets do not fly at night. Lot 1: Rapid response to control Yellow legged hornet in Scotland Treatment and removal of yellow legged (Asian) hornet Vespa velutina as and when they are reported in Scotland. Practitioners must be able to demonstrate that they comply with all HSE guidance for working at height and working with chemicals such as Vulcan P5. After the nest has been treated it should be removed and treated as biohazard and sent to SASA Science and Advice for Scottish Agriculture, near Edinburgh.
