Published
Description
The scope of works includes the removal of all of the existing fluorescent light fittings and controls in the university’s John Whitehead Building and the design and installation of new LED light fittings and controls within the building, as per the contractor’s chosen lighting manufacture’s design and equipment installation instructions.

The Contractor is to perform a site survey prior to the commencement of works to assess and develop their own evaluation of the extent of the works.

The Contractor shall also during the site survey ascertain the strip out and making good required after the replacement of the light fittings and following replacement / relocation of scene plates, switches, etc.

The Contractor is to note that surrounding areas of the building may be kept operational during the works and as such should take care to ensure the circuit isolation process does not adversely affect these areas. Items connected to building wide systems should be isolated outside of the building working hours and should not compromise the operation of the systems in the remainder of the building.

It is the responsibility of the Contractor to remove redundant items of equipment from site in a planned manner that considers the safety of others included in the construction team and also those in the surrounding environment.

All redundant fluorescent tubes, light fittings, switches, controls, etc. shall be removed off as per the WEEE regulations

The enabling works included as part of the Contractor’s scope involves but is not limited to:
• logistics solutions
• investigations and surveys
• hazardous material removal
• Temporary disconnection and safe removal of equipment and then the reinstatement after the works have been completed.

All of the works should consider the environmental, economic, cultural and social impacts on the surrounding environment and Client.

As the University will be in operation throughout the project the contractor will need to work flexibly with the University staff to establish and monitor the detailed program for the works. This will involve Weekly planning/monitoring meetings with the University staff to devise the detailed weekly programme, agree which rooms are being accessed and monitor/record progress achieved.

Access to all areas will always be subject to agreement in advance by the University and on a floor-by-floor basis. It will be necessary due to restrictions on access for the contractor to make allowances to return to rooms to complete works in phases and in some cases out of hours.
The Contractor will need to keep a good record of the lights not replaced to ensure these are not missed when returning to floors to complete works.

The Contractor will be required to move existing furniture and reinstate on completion, work around and protect fixed equipment and furniture.

Damages or impact on systems outside of the scope of works caused by lack of consideration and approach to works will be the responsibility of the Contractor

Full details of the University’s requirements can be found in the Specification
