AG2614F Multi Supplier Framework for the Provision of Marine Experts for Animal Welfare Inspections of Sea Vessels for the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM)

Published

Description

All sea vessels carrying live animals from Ireland must have undergone prior inspection and approval – the inspection process is carried out jointly by a team of specialist marine surveyors and official veterinarians; their report and recommendation forms the basis of any decision by DAFM to approve the vessel to carry livestock from the State or in the EU, in line with the legislation in place. Additionally, all voyages of livestock onto dedicated vessels in Ireland must undergo further inspection by specialist marine experts and official veterinarians before any animals can be loaded. DAFM requires marine experts to assist with the following statutory functions and official controls, which are to be performed by a team of inspectors, including at least a marine expert and an official veterinarian. • Inspection of livestock vessels for the purpose of granting a certificate of approval to carry livestock (dual certification from Ireland and EU) (pre-approval inspection) • Inspection of roll-on roll-off vessels for the purpose of granting a certificate of approval to carry live animals (dual certification from Ireland and EU) (“pre-approval inspection”) • Inspection of livestock vessels before any loading of animals (not applicable to roll-on roll-off vessels) (pre-loading inspection) All sea vessels carrying live animals from Ireland must have undergone prior inspection and approval – the inspection process is carried out jointly by a team of specialist marine surveyors and official veterinarians; their report and recommendation forms the basis of any decision by DAFM to approve the vessel to carry livestock from the State or in the EU, in line with the legislation in place.
