The Manchester Ship Canal is a 36-mile-long inland waterway in the North West of England linking Manchester to the Irish Sea. The Manchester Ship Canal Company operate four ship-handling tugs on the canal and wish to research the market for replacing these vessels. Lot 1: Ship handling tugs for use on the Manchester Ship Canal have the following broad specification. • Conventional twin-screw ship handling tug • Capable of towing over the stern as a conventional tug • Capable of towing over the bow as a braking tug (made fast to the assisted vessel’s stern) • Beam overall not to exceed 8.15m • Draught not to exceed 3.6m • Bollard pull astern 18-20 tonnes • Bollard pull ahead at least 25 tonnes • Free running speed at least 10.5 knots • Accommodation for a crew of three (in separate cabins), including galley, messroom and wash-place • Built to Class rules and classed with a recognised Classification Society • Coded under the Workboat code for minimum Category 3, 20 miles from safe haven This notice is for market research purposes only.
