Description

National Museums Liverpool (NML) is seeking to appoint a Principal Contractor to design and build a marine stop wall and to undertake associated works at the east end of the south dry (graving) dock, Canning Quaysides, Liverpool Waterfront. This is to facilitate delivery of the transformation of the Canning Quayside and Dry Docks Project; a programme of works which form one strand of the Waterfront Transformation Project. The appointed Principal Contractor must be experienced and sympathetic to undertaking works in a maritime heritage environment. The works for the Marine Stop Wall entails the design and construction of a new stop wall and extension of the concrete slab to the dock, constructed in front of the existing timber mitre gates (which are degrading) to enable Canning Dock to remain as a dry dock. The new stop wall and all associated works (to include all temporary works, waterproofing and dock edge interfaces) must be constructed to withstand a marine environment. Bidders are invited to request an optional site visit with NML representatives which are to be held on 22 November 2023 between 11:00am - 16:00pm. Full details, technical requirements and scope of works are detailed in the accompanying suite of documents and appendices. The value of this procurement is estimated to be between £2.25m - £2.75m, exclusive of VAT. NML has secured funding for the works from the Ministry for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities with a stipulation that construction is completed as per project programme. In addition to this funding support, funding applications have been made to several key funders such as DCMS, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, Liverpool City Council Section 106 and other funding trusts and foundations and philanthropic. Approvals for the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and Liverpool City Council Section 106 funding applications are expected this calendar year. The works are to be completed by September 2024.
