CUMH AHR Fertility Clinic

Cork University Maternity Hospital (CUMH) has been chosen as the national launch site for publicly funded and publicly provided complex Assisted Human Reproduction (AHR) services. The new facility will be located off-site, at the Lee Road Clinic, just outside Cork city. The facility will comprise of a mix of specialist laboratories, procedure rooms and storage areas combined with general administrative and clinical support space: 1. Procedure rooms 2. Andrology Laboratory and semen collection/men’s rooms 3. Grade D Embryology Laboratory 4. Liquid Nitrogen Cryopreservation and storage area 5. Reception and administrative space 6. Patient counselling rooms 7. Patient scanning rooms 8. Patient recovery area (post-procedure) 9. AHR Support labs and storage 10. Welfare Facilities 11. Clean utilities including tri-gases The expected total internal footprint is: “Clean” connected spaces (items 1 - 4) ca 175 m2 AHR Support space (items 5 – 11) ca 200 m2 The awarded specialist contractor will have Design and Build responsibility for the entire AHR facility and will act as the Managing Contractor on the site for all scope of works in this project. While the statutory code compliance and planning, along with Landlord building interfaces will be addressed separately by the CUMH appointed Project Team the technical co-ordination will be the responsibility of the contractor.. CUMH will procure AHR process equipment and provide free issue to the successful contractor. This will includes but is not limited to the following: 1. Specialist AHR Biosafety Cabinets with microscopes and anti-vibration mounts 2. Time lapse incubators 3. Liquid nitrogen storage dewars and associated components This facility falls under the umbrella of Tissue Establishments (TEs) and therefore, it is necessary that the selected supplier will meet EUTCD statutory, and EDQM and ESHRE regulatory guidance and comply with the new GMP Annex 1 from design through to installation and commissioning of the purchased equipment and will install it within the spatial constraint of the lab. Project constraints; 1) The AHR facility is a. Being designed and installed in a live operational medical clinic. b. Located on the 1st Floor of the Lee Road Clinic so materials and component logistics present additional challenges. 2) Liquid Nitrogen a. Liquid Nitrogen control systems are an important life safety consideration within the building. b. The Liquid Nitrogen bulk storage tank location and access must be coordinated with the Landlord. 3) Space for Contractor Welfare and Office facilities is limited on-site.
