Extension and Alterations to Scoil Phroinsiais Naofa National School, Clara, Co. Offaly

Description

The proposed development involves an addition to Scoil Phrionsias Naofa comprising alterations to the existing school and a single storey extension to the North of the existing building, connection to existing services and all associated site development works. The site is approximately 2.6 Hectares (6.42 Acres) with 68 metres of road frontage to the south of the school (along Kilbeggan Rd) and three existing sports fields to the north. Scoil Phroinsiais Naofa is almost encircled by residential and community developments. On northeast of the site, the school abuts agricultural land and is confined by a disused train track at the rear of the playing fields. The school sits adjacent to a roundabout on the R420.This pivotal junction in the heart of Clara connects the R420 Athlone to Tullamore Road and the R436 to Kilbeggan The new mainstream accommodations extend north from the east end of the school building and consist of three new classrooms, three SET rooms, one replacement classroom, one replacement library and ancillary spaces. The extension bridges across to the existing GP Hall, creating an enclosed courtyard and improved interior circulation. There are two existing prefabricated modular classrooms on site which are to be removed post construction and the yard surface is to be repaired. Construction will occur close to existing site boundaries, with the builder’s compound located on the rear of the site. Due to site restrictions, it is proposed to divide the proposed works into two main construction phases: Phase 1: The construction of the mainstream connection accommodation extends north from the east end of the school building and consist of three new classrooms, three SET rooms, one replacement classroom, one replacement library and ancillary spaces. Phase 2: The reconfiguration of existing accommodations to incorporate the SEN expansion creating a more compact and less remote SEN unit.
