Description

The museum is devoted to inspiring visitors through ideas that change the world, from the Industrial Revolution to today and beyond. The site houses four listed buildings; two of them Grade I Listed - the Station building, the original terminus of the world's first inter-city railway, and the 1830 Warehouse. We combine the distinctive appeal of the historic site with a vibrant contemporary science programme, making connections between the past and the present, between scientific theory and real-world applications. Building on the overwhelming success of the previous exhibition Operation Ouch! Food, Poo and You at the Science and Industry Museum, we are creating an exhibition based on the theme of sensory perception with the working title Operation Ouch! Senses. For this exhibition, we are working in collaboration with the producers of the BAFTA award winning CBBC TV show Operation Ouch! and the BBC to bring to life the essence of the show in a physical format. Operation Ouch! is presented by three doctors, Dr Chris van Tulleken, Dr Xand van Tulleken and Dr Ronx Ikharia who will feature throughout the exhibition. We will be bringing the hilarity, sense of fun and the open and honest approach from the TV show to an exhibition filled with visually bold encounters, super-sized setworks, playful soundscape and engaging interactive exhibits. Set in a series of dynamic zones, visitors will explore each of the major senses (and some hidden ones too) through integrated interactives, illusions and fascinating content. Visitors will journey through a giant wax-filled ear, encounter a larger-than-life brain, experience different zones dedicated to fascinating and stimulating the senses before being sneezed out of an enormous nose. We are seeking a mechanical interactive exhibit making company to create seven interactive exhibits for the Operation Ouch! Senses exhibition. The exhibition is a multi-sensory experience, and the mechanical interactive exhibit maker will help deliver an imaginative, playful and dynamic setting for adults, families and school groups.
