Description

The authority has a requirement for the design, manufacture and installation of a Double beam box (DBB) vessel support frame. The UK Atomic Energy Authority is a non-departmental government body carrying out research into the potential of nuclear fusion as a future source of energy. The authority has a requirement for the design, manufacture and installation of a Double beam box (DBB) vessel support frame. The Mega Amp Spherical Tokamak Upgrade project (MAST-U) at the UKAEA’s Culham Centre for Fusion Energy (CCFE) site is currently undergoing a number of enhancements, including the installation of a new double neutral beam injector system, also called the Double beam box (DBB). The DBB is approximately 25 tonnes, with dimensions 3,2 m (L) x 2 m (W) x 3,6 m (H). The DBB will partially overhang an existing 2,5 m deep pit, so a new stainless steel support frame is required to support the DBB in position. The frame will act as an interface between the DBB and the existing reinforced concrete structures. The scope of work is to design, procure, manufacture, install, test and hand-over a new support frame that can accommodate the DBB geometry and design loads, while fitting within the existing space and structural constraints. The key requirements are: 1) Design a support frame based on a preliminary layout provided by UKAEA to accommodate the DBB geometry and design loads; 2) Design in accordance with Eurocode design standards for ultimate and serviceability limit states; 3) Take into account the main access routes in the test facility and ensure impacts to movements and on-going operations are minimised; 4) The frame shall be austenitic stainless steel to ensure deviation of magnetic confinement fields in the vicinity of the MAST-U device does not occur; 5) The design, manufacture and installation of the frame shall meet the safety, time, quality and cost requirements as set out by UKAEA; 6) The installation schedule shall accommodate changes to the overarching progress of the MAST-U physics campaigns, so flexibility in the installation programme is required. This PIN has been published to enable market research to commence to assess the reaction of the market to the proposed support frame design and requirements. UKAEA will consider conducting a dialogue with the marketplace. The following documents provide further detail regarding the description of the requirement and can be accessed using the link provided: 1) Requirements datasheet for the double beam box support frame, 2) Market sounding questions. The final supply of this material may be influenced by the response to this PIN. All feedback will be used to inform the subsequent invitation to tender and ensure that the supply of this material fully maximises the engineering capability of both UKAEA and the supplier. The details of the project and manufacturing scope can be found in the technical information document. There includes several market sounding questions to promote discussion. Any answers to these from external organisations will be used to help further refine our procurement strategy for this requirement. The link below will take you to a registration system where you will be requested to enter your contact details. Once you have submitted these you will receive an email with a direct link to the documents identified above. http://www.ccfe.ac.uk/TenderDocs.aspx?DocName=frame.zip Please ignore the wording in the registration system email that implies that this is an invitation to tender. A response to the market sounding questions by 31.12.2019 would be appreciated.
