A LEADER Cooperation Training Project on the optimum way to minimise food waste in County Kilkenny, Ireland (in cooperation with Slovenian partners) & create a social enterprise from residues.
Published
Description
The Training project involves Kilkenny LEADER Partnership, the EU LEADER Local Action Group (LAG) for the territory, its local partner 3-CEA (the regional energy agency), and other LEADER LAGs in Slovenia, providing training to Kilkenny communities on minimising food waste. The Training will also advance systems and business models to make use of the remaining waste for community benefit purposes, such as a social enterprise focusing on by-product use; for example, renewable biogas/ biomass energy and soil enrichment products. Facilitating shared learning and cooperation with 3CEA and Slovenian partners will also be a requirement of the training. The project will require a training module which will partly iterative parallel sequence work with businesses and communities of interest and locality on the system to both deal with the problems for the environment that arise from waste and optimise the benefits for the community from that waste that will inevitably remain. The training should not be confined to individual skills, or even group skill provision, but should include elements to allow the various stakeholders to organise as a value chain and mentor the formation of a community-based business model. The training will seek to provide insight into opportunities for communities to play their part in food waste reduction and reuse. The training should be highly experiential using interactive discussions, case studies, videos and other interactive methods to enable course participants to explore their responses to new and existing ideas and mindsets. Essential Tasks of Training - Awareness of food waste - Minimisation of food waste - How can it be organised at community level The training will be run in four separate venues in Kilkenny but will also require one field trip to explore best practice in community food waste prevention elsewhere in Ireland. Any travel costs of shared training with Slovenian partners in that country will be covered elsewhere. Lot 248335: A LEADER Cooperation Training Project on the optimum way to minimise food waste in County Kilkenny, Ireland (in cooperation with Slovenian partners) & create a social enterprise from residues. Kilkenny LEADER Partnership (KLP) and 3County Energy Agency (3CEA) in collaboration with colleague LEADER ‘Local Action Groups’ (LAGs) in Slovenia propose developing a LEADER Cooperation Project in their respective territories to address the issue of how to best minimise food waste. They also want to explore the optimum environmentally method to deal with the remaining waste and its by-products to a social/ community enterprise benefit, such as the sale of renewable energy and soil enrichers.
