The Institute for Gravitational Research at the University of Glasgow requires a new tabletop Scanning Electron Microscope to replace our current system, which is greater than 10 years old, to support our R&D of materials, both for future gravitational wave detectors and for wider applications. The tabletop SEM will be used for studies of the surfaces of substrates and coatings and any defects in the materials, inspection of joints created by laser welding and also chemical bonds created by the hydroxide catalysis bonding technique.
